January 5th, – December 31st, 2016
During the year 2016, Ti-la2016 presented 52, 5-day exhibitions of contemporary Finnish art in Jyväskylä.
The goal of the ti-la2016 project was to examine the current position of contemporary Finnish art just as Finland celebrated its 100th anniversary of independence. A broad spectrum of artists were chosen to represent a roughly proportional demographic of Finnish nationals; from in and outside of Finland along with permanent residents of Finland of a large variety of ages and backgrounds.
The Ti-la2016 project resided at Kauppakatu 19, Jyväskylä for the duration of the year. The first exhibition opened on January 5th, and the last exhibition closed on December 31st, 2016. The exhibitions would open on Tuesday (Ti) and show until Saturday (La), on Sundays the exhibition was dismantled and repainted and on Monday the next exhibition would be installed.
Each exhibition was announced with a press release, and opened in the presence of the artist. The project was accompanied by a website which included images of the exhibition, a description, and an audio interview with each artist. Unfortunately the website was hacked in 2019 and most of that information was then lost.
The project was supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation (SKR) and later received the Jyväskylä City Cultural Award.
(*note: In Finnish, “tila” means “space” and “ti-la” means “Mon-Sat”)
